Bikers ride to the Challenge
When organisations across Oxford competed to see who could get the most staff to ride a bike for 10 minutes or more, staff at ITL UK HQ literally ‘rode’ to the challenge!
ITL’s team – codenamed Lampland! – took part in the Oxford Cycle Challenge, a free, fun competition that gets as many colleagues as possible to ride a bike for just 10 minutes over a three week Challenge period during June.
People can ride wherever they feel comfortable and at anytime over the Challenge. The Lamplanders were delighted to find themselves one of the teams to come in the winning three places in their size category by getting the highest percentage of staff cycling: for ITL, a very satisfactory 100%.
The Government’s ‘Cycle To Work’ scheme is turning out to be very popular amongst the staff at ITL with 13 members of staff taking part overall.
In addition to receiving a certificate and a prize pack of cycling gear, the Upper Heyford bikers also won a well-deserved professional Massage session.
“We certainly needed it after all that riding,” said star turn Phil Hardwick who clocked up a mighty 655.7 miles, with Eddie Walsh behind him at 388 miles. Fellow riders were John Bonas, Graham Schofield and Dave Johnson.
Phil said afterwards he cycled because “it saves putting miles on my motorcycle” while John “did it for the pain”!
